Apart from Samsung, there haven't been many high-end Android tablets from well-known brands in the last few years. That's steadily changed, though, thanks to the growth in demand for tablets during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, OnePlus unveiled its first-ever tablet device, the OnePlus Pad, which boasted impressive specs for its price. Today, the company followed up on that device with the OnePlus Pad 2, which offers even better specs, new software features, and a whole lot more, at an incredible price that also includes several accessories.

The original OnePlus Pad packed the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, which was already a generation old when it launched. The OnePlus Pad 2, meanwhile, features Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. The OnePlus Pad 2 should thus significantly outperform the original Pad in terms of raw performance.

The OnePlus Pad 2 also has a slightly larger display, at 12.1-inches versus 11.61-inches, as well as a slightly higher resolution 3K display. The panel technology is still LCD, but it supports refresh rates up to 144Hz, Dolby Vision content, and reaches a peak brightness of 900 nits. The Pad 2 also has a 6-speaker system with Dolby Atmos support, what the company calls Holo Audio, and an omnibearing sound field, making video and audio content look and sound immersive.

Powering this 12.1" tablet is a large 9510 mAh battery that can be topped up via a 67W SuperVOOC fast charger. While there's no cellular connectivity onboard, it can connect to Wi-Fi 7 networks and pair over Bluetooth 5.4. If you have a OnePlus phone signed into the same OnePlus account, you can enable cellular data sharing to connect your OnePlus Pad 2 to the Internet. If you have a phone from another brand, though, you'll need to wait for Android's Instant Hotspot feature to roll out.

Apart from the chipset, software seems to be the area where the OnePlus Pad 2 improves the most over its predecessor. The OnePlus Pad 2 runs OxygenOS 14 based on Android 14 out of the box, and it finally brings the Open Canvas feature from the OnePlus Open that we love so much. Open Canvas lets you open and interact with up to three apps simultaneously, if you aren't aware. Next, the tablet supports the company's App Relay feature, which lets you easily transfer tasks between your OnePlus phone and tablet. And it also supports OxygenOS's Remote File Access feature to speed up file sharing between your Pad 2 and OnePlus Phone, as well as File Shortcuts to pin shortcuts to recently used files or images to the taskbar for quick access.

AI features are of course a big part of the marketing for the OnePlus Pad 2. The tablet features the company's AI Eraser 2.0, Smart Cutout 2.0, AI Toolbox, Recording Summary, and Document Scan features. AI Eraser lets you remove unwanted objects or people from photos. Smart Cutout isolates up to three subjects in an image so you can edit, share, or save the cutouts as stickers. AI Toolbox is a suite of tools including a text reader, a text summarizer, and a text suggestion tool. Recording Summary transcribes and summarizes your voice recordings. Lastly, Document Scan optimizes your scanned documents, applies filters to them, and makes them searchable. These AI features are baked into OxygenOS 14 and the company's suite of stock apps.
